A wind-driven fire spread from an attached garage to several residential units on the west side of Ventura Monday morning.
The fire was reported around 7:45 AM in the 1600 block of Ventura Avenue.
When the first fire units arrived on scene they found a single story multi family home with heavy fire and smoke showing from the garage and attached homes.
Firefighters say strong Santa Ana winds played a critical role in the rapid spread of the fire which was now threatening other nearby homes and vehicles.
Crews began an aggressive attack with a coordinated effort of both vertical and horizontal ventilation to contain the flames.
They had the fire controlled in less than a half hour after being dispatched.
There was no one inside the homes and no injuries were reported.
More than 50 personnel responded to the scene including firefighters from Ventura City, Oxnard City, and Ventura County along with Ventura police and AMR ambulance.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
