Ventura Man Headed To Prison For Series Of Violent Incidents At Apartment Complex

Monday April 29, 2024

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office says that a man is headed to state prison for 5 years for causing a series of threatening and violent incidents at a Ventura apartment complex on November 4th of last year.

They say it started with an verbal argument between 30-year-old Nathan Journigan of Ventura and his mother in the common area of their apartment complex.

Prosecutors say when a neighbor opened his door to complain about the noise level, Journigan responded with racist language and threats of violence toward the African American neighbor.

The neighbor then retreated back into his apartment and called 9-1-1 while at least two other residents of the complex also called 9-1-1.

When officers responded, they knocked on Journigan's door and identified themselves but got no response.

Because Journigan was on post-release supervision for a prior crime, the officers were able to get a key from the complex manager and entered the apartment.

Prosecutors say at that point Journigan's behavior escalated and he told them he had a fully loaded gun and was going to stab the police K-9.

Officers deployed a Taser and Journigan fell to the floor where he grabbed a flat screen TV and threw it at the officers, hitting one of them in the leg.

At that point the K-9 was deployed and Journigan was taken into custody and arrested.

Last month he pleaded guilty to several felony and misdemeanor charges.
