Thousand Oaks Man Charged With Multiple Counts Of Child Luring and Child Sexual Assault

Saturday August 06, 2022

A Thousand Oaks man who had been on probation for killing a dog in 2019 is now facing a new case involving dozens of counts of felony and misdemeanor child luring and child sexual assault involving female juveniles.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office say 22-year-old Devon Joelson used social media sites to victimize several teenage girls ranging in age from 14 to 17 at various locations in Thousand Oaks and Camarillo.

The investigation into the latest case began in March of this year when a female juvenile reported that a man had gotten her to send child sexual abuse material over the Internet and then "conned" her into meeting him at a local park where he is alleged to have tried to sexually abuse her.

Detectives served search warrants and they say they discovered Joelson had been communicating with several female juvenile via social media platforms.

Investigators say in May of 2022 Joelson was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident with another female juvenile at his residence in the 700 block of Hartglen Avenue in Thousand Oaks.

He was arrested and then released on bail.

Detectives say they discovered the victim in that incident also met Joelson on the Internet and they began a relationship that allegedly included sexual abuse.

Finally, on August 2, 2022, another search warrant was served on Joelson's home and he was taken into custody on even more charges.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1 million.

Sheriff's investigators believe there are other possible victims and they are asking anyone with information that could help in the investigation to call Detective Larrs Johnson at the Camarillo Investigations Unit at (805) 388-5120.

According to court records and other information, Joelson was arrested in 2019 and later pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty for kicking a small dog to death in his neighborhood.

He was placed on probation for that crime.
