Authorities in Thousand Oaks say a teenage girl was seriously wounded after she was attacked by her family's large dogs Sunday afternoon.
The 16-year-old girl was rescued by firefighters and deputies who had responded to the incident in the 100 block of Manzanita Place around 3:30 PM.
Firefighters used their engine's air horn and waved firefighting equipment at the dogs to stop the attack and then a deputy arrived and used pepper spray to back the dogs off so they could be secured.
The animals were described by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office as 5 Cane Corso dogs.
It is a type of dog referred to as an Italian breed of Mastiff.
These were her family's dogs at their family home.
The girl was taken to Los Robles Medical Center reportedly suffering from significant dog bites and lacerations but the wounds were described as non-life threatening.
Her mother was also wounded when she tried to intervene but her injuries were described as minor.
The Los Angeles County Animals Services Department, which contracts with Thousand Oaks for animal services, impounded the dogs.
