Suspect In Saticoy Homicide Formally Charged With Murder

Thursday June 02, 2022

Updated--The man accused of killing another man in Saticoy last Sunday afternoon has been formally charged with murder.

The DA Thursday filed charges against 18-year-old Julius Luna of Ventura in connection with the shooting death of 26-year-old Gabriel Cueva of Piru.

In addition to murder, prosecutors also filed two special allegations regarding the use of a firearm and also that the killing was gang-related.

Luna appeared in court but he did not enter a plea.

He is due back in court on June 6th for a review of his $1.5 million bail and his arraignment was postponed until June 30th.

Meanwhile, he remains in the Ventura County Jail.

Cueva was found lying face down in the street at the intersection of Azahar Street and Alelia Avenue in Saticoy.

Ventura County Sheriff's Sergeant Jason Karol told KVTA News that Cueva had been shot multiple times and was taken to VCMC where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives served search warrants and obtained additional evidence linking Luna to the homicide and he was arrested two days later in Fresno County.

If convicted, Luna could face 50-years-to-life in prison.
