A Santa Maria man has been ordered to stand trial for murder in the shooting death of a man in Oxnard.
Prosecutors say that 23-year-old Manuel Dominguez Jr. was involved in an altercation with 29-year-old Roberto Gutierrez of Oxnard on December 13, 2018, in front of a residence in the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue.
They allege that during the altercation, Dominguez used a handgun to shoot Gutierrez once in the chest.
Gutierrez was rushed to VCMC where he later died.
The investigation led to Dominguez as a suspect and he was arrested on January 2, 2019.
Following a preliminary hearing this week, Dominguez was held to answer on a charge of murder with a special allegation of the use of a firearm.
He has pleaded not guilty and denied the special allegation and remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set a $750,000.
Dominguez is due back in court on March 16th to have a trial date set.
