Updated--The Ventura County Sheriff's Office told KVTA News that the pilot was killed following a small plane crash between Camarillo and Oxnard Friday morning.
They received calls around 8:01 AM Friday reporting a plane had struck a two-story office building alongside the SB 101 near Del Norte Blvd and then most of the plane wound up on fire in a field on the other side of the freeway along the NB 101.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and began an extensive ground and air search looking for any victims.
They found one person dead in the wreckage.
No additional victims were found.
The plane had just taken off from Camarillo Airport.
According to FAA records, the fixed-wing, single-engine Mooney M20K was registered to a holding company in Phoenix, Arizona.
It was en route back to Arizona when the fatal crash occurred just after takeoff from Camarillo.
The NTSB will investigate the crash.
