Oxnard Woman Killed Crossing Intersection

Friday May 10, 2024

An Oxnard woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck as she walked across a major intersection just before dawn Friday morning.

Police say that around 5:20 AM 67-year-old Josefina Romo was crossing Oxnard Boulevard at Rose Avenue in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling southbound on Oxnard Boulevard.

Romo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, a 58-year-old Oxnard man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police believe that speed, alcohol, and drugs were NOT factors in the collision.

The incident closed southbound Rose at Oxnard Boulevard and southbound Oxnard Boulevard at Statham creating traffic problems in the area that also impacted eastbound Channel Islands Boulevard.

The closures were lifted about five hours later.

Police continue to investigate the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Alexis Arellano at (805) 200-5668 or via email at alexis.arellano@oxnardpd.org
