New Details About Live-Streamed Standoff At Moorpark Apartment

     Update--The Ventura County Sheriff's Office has released new details about the barricaded subject in Moorpark last week who live-streamed the standoff.

     The authorities say that when deputies tried to serve a search warrant and eviction notice on the three subjects living at the Avery at Moorpark apartments September 18th, the people inside refused to let them in so the deputies used a battering ram to force entry.

     They say when they did, one of the subjects inside, 43-year-old Edwige Mondesir Senior, allegedly came at them holding a metal object over his head.

     Deputies responded by striking him with a less lethal projectile and he retreated into rear room inside the apartment and refused to come out.

     Meanwhile, they allege his 18-year-old son, Edwige Junior, allegedly battered a detective and was arrested after a brief struggle.

     A 44-year-old woman in the apartment, Maritza Miranda, was arrested without incident.

     All three subjects are also allegedly facing arrest warrants for various other prior crimes.

     The standoff with Mondesir Senior lasted five hours with him commenting on his live-stream on YouTube that he was not going to surrender.

     Finally, the SWAT team introduced a chemical agent into the room where he was holed-up and he was taken into custody without further incident.

     All three subjects were arrested on a long list of charges relating to both the incident at the apartment and prior alleged crimes.

     Mondesir Senior is also charged with child endangerment and Miranda is charged with child abuse.

     Miranda and Mondesir Junior have pleaded not guilty and at last report were in the Ventura County Jail awaiting their next court appearance.

     The Mondesir Senior, meanwhile, is being held on $340,000 bail and has not entered a plea since the criminal proceedings against him have been suspended while the court determines if he is mentally competent to understand the charges against him and aid in his defense.

     A hearing on that issue is set for October 10th.
