Updated--Firefighters spent the night working to fully extinguish the multi-alarm fire that consumed a multi-story hotel and convention center under construction in Camarillo Tuesday night.
Dubbed the "Promenade Incident" the fire was reported at 7:11 PM at Las Posas Road and Ventura Boulevard.
The flames spread quickly from floor to floor until they broke through the roof.
The entire four-story building went up in flames as firefighters from throughout Ventura County converged on the scene.
Within an hour, the building started to collapse.
Meanwhile, the flames spread to the 101 Freeway and also threatened Edison power lines over the freeway so the CHP was asked to shut down the entire freeway in both directions.
NB was reopened about 90 minutes later after Edison de-energized the compromised power lines but the SB lanes remained closed for at least another hour after that.
The cause of the fire was under investigation as they sift through the rubble
No injuries were reported.
