Fatal Fire Christmas Morning In Oxnard

Sunday December 25, 2022

The Oxnard Fire Department is investigating a fatal house fire on Christmas morning.

It was reported at 3 AM Sunday in the 1400 block of West Guava Street east of Ventura Road.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found a 1200 square foot single story, single family home to the rear of the main house with a working fire with smoke and flames showing.

They also found four fire victims outside of the home.

They included an adult male who was pronounced dead at the scene and an adult female and two juveniles with critical injuries.

The woman and children were rushed to VCMC and Saint John's Medical Center and later transferred to burn centers elsewhere in Southern California.

     Their current conditions are unknown.

Oxnard Fire Battalion Chief Michael McCaslin told KVTA News firefighters had the fire knocked down in 15-20 minutes but the small home was a total loss.

He says the fire appears to be accidental but the investigation into what happened and why is continuing.
