Updated--Crews are getting the upper hand on the massive Lake Fire that broke out in northern Santa Barbara County on July 5th.

As of Friday the fire remained below 39,000 acres while containment increased to 73 percent.

As more crews have been released, the number still on the fire lines has been reduced to around 2,000 which is almost half what it was at the height of the fire.

And while some areas remain under evacuation orders or warnings, more and more are being lifted.

Fire officials credit the hard work of firefighters on the ground and the help of water dropping helicopters and fire retardant air tankers for battling the flames day and night.
