Taco Bell To Pay $85,000 To Settle Ventura County Lawsuit Over Gift Card Violations

Wednesday June 14, 2023

Taco Bell has been ordered to pay $85,000 to resolve a lawsuit filed in Ventura County by the District Attorneys in Ventura, Los Angeles, and Sonoma counties over the "taco titan's" violation of California's gift card law.

The lawsuit alleged that the company, its franchises, and its corporate agents unlawfully denied California customers the right to cash out their Taco Bell gift cards when the balance fell below $10.

The company is being required to post a notice near their cash registers advising consumers of their right to "cash out" the remaining balance and how to do it.

The settlement also requires Taco Bell to streamline its gift card redemption website to make it as easy as possible to do that.

Finally, the company has to stay on top of its franchises and employees to make sure they obey the law and help customers take advantage of it.
