Father Sentenced For Using Sledgehammer To Beat Sleeping Son

Wednesday November 01, 2023

Updated--A Ventura County judge Wednesday sentenced a man who beat his sleeping son with a sledgehammer.

42-year-old Anthony Nardini of Bakersfield was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in connection with the attack in a home near Simi Valley.

In September a jury found Nardini guilty of attempted murder, aggravated mayhem, and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the March 2023 attack on his 24-year-old son.

Prosecutors say that Nardini and his son had been estranged but they had reconnected and were staying with family members in Ventura County that night.

However, they got into a physical argument that had to be broken up by family members.

Nardini left but then returned and found his son sleeping on the couch.

He then insisted the other family members to to bed.

Once he was alone with his sleeping son, Nardini grabbed a sledgehammer and began to bludgeon his son.

The noise from the attack woke up the other family members who found Nardini's son suffering from severe head injuries.

Nardini had fled out the back door.

The son had to be put into a medically induced coma for several days but ultimately survived the attack.
