The CHP says they arrested a 24-year-old Santa Barbara man for DUI after he allegedly drove the wrong way up the Conejo Grade early Sunday morning and crashed head on into another vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Port Hueneme man.

Both men had to be extricated from their Honda Civics and both men were taken to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks suffering from major injuries.

     Their current conditions are unknown.

The CHP says both men were wearing their seat belts and both were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The head on collision happened in the left lane of NB 101 heading down the Conejo Grade.

The crash just after midnight Sunday morning and caused nine other vehicles to crash but fortunately no one was seriously hurt in the other vehicles.

The crash shut down the NB 101 south of Camarillo Springs Road for almost three hours early Sunday morning creating a major backup as motorists were unable to travel between Thousand Oaks down to Camarillo.

The CHP says they are still trying to figure out where the wrong way driver from Santa Barbara got onto the NB 101 traveling SB in the NB lanes and how far he manged to travel before hitting the victim's vehicle that was traveling in the correct direction NB.

They say the Santa Barbara man who was driving the wrong way was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
