The City of Santa Paula is launching its 122nd birthday party with the dedication Saturday at the historic Union Oil Building.

The building, constructed in 1890, was the birthplace and headquarters of the Union Oil Company for decades.

In 1950 it was turned into the Union Oil Company Museum and 1990, on its 100th birthday, it was restored and reopened as the California Oil Museum.

It was given to the city this year by Chevron through its affiliate Union Oil along with a $2 million grant to maintain it.

The building is a California Historical Landmark on also on the National Register of Historic Places.

The structure at the corner of Main and 10th streets in downtown Santa Paula is not only a part of the city’s history but its identity.

Saturday’s festivities will start promptly at 12:30 PM Saturday and the public is urged to attend.

A Simi Valley man was sentenced Thursday after being convicted by a jury last month of stalking and extorting a former girlfriend and distributing private intimate photos when she refused to pay the extortion money.

52-year-old Jason Anthony Arnold could have received more than three years in state prison but the judge suspended that sentence and placed him on three years formal probation with a long list of conditions.

He was also sentenced to a year and a half in the Ventura County Jail.

In addition he must undergo domestic violence and other counseling and have absolutely no form of contact with the victim.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries in Thousand Oaks Thursday evening.

They say that between 7 PM and 9:30 PM at least 11 vehicles were broken into in parking lots.

In most cases the two suspects would smash the windows of the vehicles and then look for backpacks and purses.

In one case they ignored an iPad and went for the cash and cards.

They would steal the money and credit cards and then went to Target on Teller Road and used the credit cards to buy gift cards and other merchandise.

Detectives have descriptions of the two adult males and a vehicle they believed were involved in the crimes.
