Ventura police were investigating a fatal traffic collision over the weekend involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

It happened around 12:15 PM Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Thompson Boulevard.

Commander Ryan Weeks tells KVTA news a 33-year-old man driving a pickup truck had stopped at the red light on southbound Chestnut Street at Thompson Boulevard.

He says when the light turned green the pickup truck driver started to make a left turn onto eastbound Thompson when he struck a 76-year-old female pedestrian in the eastern crosswalk walking northbound across Thompson.

Paramedics who are stationed at the house on the corner came immediately to the woman's aid and treated her until she was taken to VCMC by ambulance.

Weeks says the hospital called Sunday to let them know she had died.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Weeks says the incident was captured on video and the traffic division is continuing their investigating.
