The Ventura Police Department has adopted a therapy comfort dog to help employees and the public deal with the emotional impacts of traumatic events.

"Asher" is a one-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mix donated to the department by a local non-profit, VIP Dog Teams.

He will be there to ease tension and lower post-incident stress and anxiety levels for employees, soothe victims and witnesses of crimes and provide support to those impacted by traumatic events.

"Asher" will also visit other city departments and various community events for educational purposes.

Business Services Officer, Roger Wang, will be Asher's handler.

He says "Asher" has a calm temperament, is hypoallergenic, and does not shed.

When not on duty, "Asher" will go home with Wang and serve as the family dog.
