Violent Crime In Ventura Up During First Six Months Of 2021
Thursday July 22, 2021
The Ventura Police Department released the crime statistics for the first six months of 2021.
It shows violent crime was up by 23 percent.
Sexual assaults were up by 53 percent and robberies rose by 32 percent.
Police blame the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions for the increase.
They say the lockdowns and business closures during the pandemic last year pushed violent crime down.
They say the lifting of those restrictions caused the crime rates to rise back to normal levels.
Meanwhile, reported property crimes fell slightly during the first six months of this year in Ventura.
Between property crimes and violent crimes, overall Part 1 crime for the first six months of 2021 was up slightly.
