Ventura Road Crash In Oxnard Claims A Second Life

      Updated--Oxnard police say the solo vehicle crash on July 3rd on Ventura Road has claimed a second life.

      They say the driver, 38-year-old Jose Romero of Oxnard died this week from the injuries he suffered in the crash.

     His passenger, 37-year-old Lloraine Staci Torres of Oxnard, died the same morning as the crash.

      Both Romero and Torres had been taken to VCMC.

      Oxnard police believe that speed and reckless driving were contributing factors that led to the crash shortly before 2 AM on the morning of July 3rd on Ventura Road near Ivywood Drive.

     Police say Romero was driving a 1998 Ford Escort southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the vehicle slammed into an electric pole in the center divider.

     Both Romero and Torres were ejected from the vehicle.

     The crash shut down Ventura Road in both directions between Ivywood Drive and Devonshire Drive for several hours that day.
