Thursday August 03, 2023
Ventura Police say one of their officers fatally shot a dog early Thursday morning after the unleashed dog attempted twice to bite him.
The incident happened at 4 AM at the south end of Ash Street as officers were on routine foot patrol walking towards several vehicles in that area.
Police say the approximately 45 pound Belgian Malinois mix was not on a leash when it approached one of the officers and circled behind him and attempted to bite the officer.
They say the officer tried to avoid the dog but the dog tried a second time to bite the officer and that's when the officer fatally shot the dog.
After the incident, the police discovered this dog had bitten a woman in Plaza Park back on April 9th and the owner had been issued a citation because the dog was not on a leash.
