Ventura County Animal Services says they have, in their words, and “extreme crisis” on their hands.

The Camarillo shelter has passed 140 percent of capacity with 206 dogs occupying 146 indoor and outdoor kennels suitable for round the clock housing.

This has led to a severe outbreak of upper respiratory infection among the canine population, jeopardizing their health and well being.

They are asking people who might have a pet at the shelter to come get it immediately.

Meanwhile, they will continue to accept lost animals that are sick, injured, or aggressive.

But they are asking people who find healthy dogs to avoid bringing them to the shelter if possible.

Instead, share found dogs on VCAS social media email a clear face picture to info@vcas.us and include their location and your contact information.

Visit their lost and found to file a found animal report, scan the QR codes on the dog’s collar, post the dog’s photo on social media or take the dog to a vet to get it scanned for a microchip.

VCAS is waiving all dog adoption fees until further notice.
