Tuesday August 08, 2023
Updated--The Ventura City Council has voted to confirm former Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub as the new Ventura City Manager effectively immediately.
Ayub's annual salary will be $280,000 as part of a total compensation package of $351,130.
Ayub comes from 37 years of experience in law enforcement including more than four years as Ventura County Sheriff.
He retired from law enforcement after losing the last election for sheriff to Jim Fryoff.
Ayub fills a position with the city that has been unsettled since the departure of Alex McIntyre under controversial circumstances last December followed by a series of Interim City Managers.
Ayub has a Masters Degree in Emergency Services Administration from Cal State Long Beach and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Cal State Northridge.
Ayub spent 15 of his 37 years in law enforcement in management.
As sheriff, he managed a department with more than twice the number of employees as the city of Ventura.
