Two L-A Gang Members Sentenced For Attack And Robbery Of Two Elderly Patrons At Oaks Mall
Thursday October 31, 2024
The Ventura County District Attorney's Office says two Los Angeles "Crips" gang members have been sentenced in connection with the violent robbery of two elderly patrons in the Macy's at the Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks.
They say on June 27, 2024 Corey Thomas (top), and Jonathan Requejo (bottom), both 18-years-old, along with some Los Angeles juveniles, attacked a man and woman in their 70's, then stole a Rolex watch from the male victim and the purse and cell phone from the female victim.
Both victims suffered significant physical injuries in the attack.
The crime was captured on security video.
Thomas, Requejo, and the juveniles then fled in a vehicle and were involved in a high speed pursuit southbound on the 101 from Thousand Oaks.
At one point a loaded gun was seen being thrown out of a window of the suspect vehicle and was recovered.
The vehicle ultimately stopped and some of the suspects fled on foot but all of the suspects were ultimately captured.
The stolen property was also recovered.
Thomas and Requejo pleaded guilty in September to robbery, elder abuse, theft from an elder, and conspiracy.
Thomas also pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and felony evading.
Thomas and Requejo were sentenced Tuesday to two years in state prison.
