Teenager Shot Thursday Morning In Oxnard Has Died In What Police Believe Was A Gang Related Kiling

Friday December 08, 2023

Updated--Oxnard police say the teenage boy who was critically wounded by gunfire Thursday morning has died in what Major Crimes detectives say appears to be a gang-related killing.

It was reported around 8 AM in the 200 block of West Clara Street near some apartments west of Saviers Road and east of Southwinds Park.

Police received a call from a person who said they were driving the 16-year-old male victim to the hospital.

Officers responded and stopped the vehicle in the area of Oxnard Boulevard and Date Street to allow emergency medical personnel to begin to treat the victim for multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was then taken by ambulance to VCMC where he underwent emergency surgery.

But police say they were later contacted by the hospital to say that the boy had died.

Meanwhile, there were initial reports that two male juveniles may have been involved in the shooting.

As detectives look for the suspects, they say the motive for the shooting appears to have been gang-related.

Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
