Suspect In Camarillo Robbery Pleads Guilty To Deadly Pursuit That Followed
Thursday November 21, 2024
Updated--The suspect in a Camarillo armed robbery in July and a deadly pursuit that followed has pleaded guilty to several charges but not the robbery that started it all.
Thursday, 21-year-old Makare Toliver of Lancaster pleaded guilty to evading an officer causing death and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
He also pleaded guilty to assault with a firearm and grand theft of a firearm.
But he did not plead guilty to two counts of second degree robbery.
He did admit 16 special allegations, several related to the reported armed robbery in the parking lot of the Good Nite Inn on Ventura Boulevard that started the series of crimes.
The charges regarding evading an officer causing death and leaving the scene of an accident causing death had to do with hitting a bicyclist as he fled the scene with deputies in pursuit.
The bicyclist, 58-year-old Robert Pierret of Ventura, died at the hospital.
The incident ended after Toliver was involved in a second injury crash in the area of the "S curves" or "Mesa Curves" at Santa Clara and La Vista and was taken into custody at gunpoint by one of the pursuing deputies.
Toliver remains in the Ventura County Jail and is being held without bail.
He faces sentencing on January 6th.
