Suspect In Camarillo Crime Spree That Turned Deadly Headed To Prison

Updated--A man who committed a series of crimes last July in the Camarillo area that led to another man's death is headed to state prison.
A judge Monday sentenced 21-year-old Makare Toliver of Lancaster to 12 years in state prison.
Toliver had earlier pleaded guilty to second degree robbery, evading an officer causing death and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
He also pleaded guilty to assault with a firearm and grand theft of a firearm.
The series of crimes started with had been reported as an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Good Nite Inn on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.
Toliver ended up in a pursuit with law enforcement as he headed west from the crime scene.
It was during that pursuit that Toliver struck a bicyclist on the right shoulder of Central Avenue near Beardsley Road and just kept on going.
That bicyclist, 58-year-old Robert Pierret of Ventura, was rushed to VCMC where he died.
Toliver was involved in two more traffic collisions before finally being caught.
His victims, including Pierret's family, spoke at the sentencing hearing Monday.
