Source Of "Disturbing" Borderline Posts Found

Monday July 1, 2019

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department says they located the man who was the source of some recent "disturbing" Online posts about the Borderline Bar and Grill mass shooting last November and have determined they were both a fabrication and no actual threat.

The Online posts appeared to make a link between the tragedy last November in Thousand Oaks and a foreign militant group.

Deputies say while the posts did not post a threat, they were "disturbing, insensitive, and concerning" to a community still trying to heal from the historically tragic event.

Through investigation detectives identified the source as a 27-year-old Thousand Oaks resident and then located him over the weekend.

He was found Saturday night in the 2800 block of Camino Dos Rios in Newbury Park.

He told deputies he did not intend to threaten anyone.

Detectives determined that while distastful and inappropriate, the posts "did not violate any statutes" so he was not arrested in connection with that.

He was arrested for being under the influence of illegal drugs.
