A judge Thursday ordered a Simi Valley woman to stand trial for murder.
78-year-old Mary Karacas is accused in the fatal shooting of 84-year-old Salvatore Orefice at a residence in the 6200 block of Anastasia Avenue in Simi Valley in July of 2016.
Police say that Karacas and Orefice were in a long standing relationship and she had recently sold that house.
His body was found in a bedroom by the new owners when they arrived to check out their new home.
Police were called to the scene and while they were there Karacas returned to the home and was interviewed by police.
During her preliminary hearing Thursday prosecutors presented testimony that indicated Karacas told investigators several different stories.
They say initially she said she had no idea what happened and then later she admitted to fatally shooting Orefice during an altercation and it was self defense.
But prosecutors don't believe it was self defense and they say she might have shot him while he was sleeping.
Karacas is charged with murder and use of a firearm to cause great bodily injury.
She remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $760,000 and is due back in court June 6th to have a trial date set.
