     Santa Ana winds will create high wildfire danger in most of Ventura County Friday and Saturday.

     Southern California Edison says be ready for Public Safety Power Shutoffs in many areas.

     As of Thursday afternoon, more than 17,000 SCE customers in Ventura County were on notice they might have their power shut off.

     The potential areas are those along both sides of South Mountain, Somis, Moorpark, The Santa Monica Mountains and portions of Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

     A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from at least Friday morning through Saturday afternoon (see bottom of story).

     Northeast and east winds gusting between 30 to 45 miles an hour will rake the valley and mountain areas of Ventura County.

     Humidity will plunge to between 5 and 15 percent.

     Even the Coastal Plain will be under a High Wind Warning.

Public Safety Power Shutoff Event

Ventura County Sheriff’s Emergency Services, in coordination the National Weather Service, is tracking a mild to moderate Santa Ana wind event expected to impact Ventura County Friday into Saturday. Southern California Edison is monitoring 16 circuits for a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff event. The period of concern is from Friday, October 18, 2024, from 6:00 a.m. through Saturday, October 19, 2024. at 12:00 p.m. For more information, please visit the incident dashboard below. RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR MOST VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES... .Moderate Santa Ana winds will develop Friday morning and continue through Saturday. Gusts between 30 and 45 mph will be common over much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with isolated gusts to around 50 mph. Winds will be strongest in the valleys and mountains and from Friday afternoon through Friday Night. Relative humidity will drop into the 5 to 15 percent range each day, with very poor overnight recoveries Friday Night. Such an environment will support rapid fire growth and erratic fire behavior.
