The California Highway Patrol says a pedestrian was killed Friday night in an incident in Oxnard that may have involved up to seven vehicles.
It happened shortly before 9:15 PM on the northbound 101 south of Vineyard Avenue.
The CHP says the male pedestrian attempted to cross all lanes of the freeway and was initially struck in the number three lane and killed by a 2003 Toyota Tundra driven by a 19-year-old Ventura man.
They say the pedestrian was then struck by several other vehicles.
The CHP says the incident may have involved up to seven vehicles hitting the pedestrian.
They say the driver of the first vehicle stopped and cooperated with the authorities and was NOT under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
They say several of the drivers of the other vehicles that then struck the pedestrian also stopped and cooperated with the authorities and none of them were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The CHP says they're not sure whether the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and as of Saturday morning they were still trying to identify him.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any other information that might help the CHP in their investigation is asked to call (805) 662-2640.
