Oxnard Pedestrian's Death Considered A Homicide

Friday May 24, 2019

Updated--The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a pickup truck in an alley late Thursday night.

He has been identified as 31-year-old Michael Holley of Oxnard.

Holley's death is being classified as a homicide.

Shortly before 11 PM Thursday night officers and emergency personnel responded to the west alley in the 2000 block of Mariposa Street between Mariposa and Ventura Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Holley on the ground suffering from injuries that appeared to be from being struck by a vehicle.

He was rushed to the trauma center at VCMC where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the pickup truck driver fled the scene in the vehicle and is still at large.

Investigators with the Oxnard PD Major Crimes Unit were called in because evidence at the scene and witness statements pointed to this incident being an intentional act.

By the end of the day, they were investigating Holley's death as the city's latest homicide and the latest example in Oxnard of a vehicle being used as a deadly weapon.

Police released a photo of a vehicle they say looks like the suspect vehicle.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a light colored, late model pick-up, similar to a Dodge.
