Monday September 02, 2024
Update--A second defendant in a gang-related shooting in Oxnard a dozen years ago was sentenced to ten years in prison.
33-year-old Hugo Sanchez had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of assault in connection with the death of 19-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Oxnard on July 9, 2012 and the wounding of a 22-year-old man.
Sanchez was not the shooter.
That was 30-year-old Gustavo Cuevas of Oxnard who, earlier this month, was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder.
The shooting happened during a fight in the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive in Oxnard.
It appears that Sanchez, while given a ten year sentence, has essentially served it aleady given credit for time spent in custody plus other credits.
And will remain free on parole.
