A judge Wednesday sentenced an Oxnard man to 7 years in state prison for what the CHP said at the time was a fatal DUI hit and run crash that killed a motorcyclist last November.

Within two weeks after the crash, 32-year-old Anthony Pacheco III had pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and admitted he fled the scene of the crash.

The crash happened on the night of November 6, 2022.

The CHP says Pacheco was southbound 101 in his 2018 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when he rear ended a motorcyclist north of Rice Avenue in Oxnard.

The motorcyclist, a 59-year-old man, was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by other vehicles.

     He died at the scene.

Meanwhile, Pacheco fled on foot but was identified, located, and arrested at a residence in Camarillo.

At his sentencing Wednesday, Pacheco was immediately taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.

In addition to the 7 years in prison, Pacheco will not be able to drive for three years after his  release.
