Oxnard Man Ordered To Stand Trial In Fatal Shooting Near Performing Arts Center

     A judge Wednesday ordered an Oxnard man to stand trial in connection with the fatal shooting of another Oxnard man near the Performing Arts Center more than a year ago.

     It was on the night of January 26, 2021, that 44-year-old Carlos Ramirez of Oxnard was found down in the street at the intersection of Illena Street and West 9th Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and torso.

     He was pronounced dead at the scene.

     Officers were given information about a possible suspect and they located 34-year-old Oscar Reyes of Oxnard in the area.

     He was taken into custody, arrested, and charged with murder and the use of a gun.

     Police said at the time that the two men had been in an altercation that led to the shooting.

     A preliminary hearing was held Wednesday and Reyes was held to answer on the charges.

     He remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $755,000.

     Reyes in due back in court next month to have a trial date set.
