Oxnard Gun/Gang Suspect Caught After School Lockdowns, and more

Wednesday October 16, 2024

Orozco Gun

Oxnard police say they arrested a documented gang member who had a gun following a search that prompted school lock-downs Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began shortly before 1 PM when officers conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of La Canada.

As the vehicle slowed, one of its occupants, identified as 30-year-old Luis Orozco of Oxnard, jumped out and ran with what turned out to be a loaded .45 caliber handgun (pictured above).

Officers set up a perimeter and while they were looking for the documented gang member they found the gun that he had discarded on the route he took to flee the scene.

Schools in the area were put on lockdown as the search continued.

Then, they got a call from a woman who lives on the 200 block of McMillan Street who said she returned home to find her backyard sliding glass door open.

Using a drone and a robot Oxnard police determined that Orozco was hiding under a bed in the residence.

SWAT officers got on the PA system and told him come out or else, and he did, and was taken into custody.

      No injuries were reported.

Ventura County Jail Night Generic4

The infamous Ventura County serial rapist Andrew Luster is going to be a free man in exactly two years no matter what anyone says or does about it.

Andrew Luster, an heir to the Max Factor cosmetic fortune was sentenced in 2003 to 124 years in prison for drugging and then sexually assaulting three women at his beachside home in Mussel Shoals.

Luster was not at his sentencing, he had already fled to Mexico where he would eventually be tracked down by Dog the Bounty Hunter and returned to the United States to begin his prison term.

Then, about a decade later, his lawyers got his sentence reduced from 124 years to 50 and last August a two person parole panel granted him parole.

But the Ventura County DA's office got that overturned by the full parole board.

Luster gets another parole chance next year but even if that doesn't work out for him, he will have earned enough credits to be released from prison in October of 2026 no matter what.

Windy WX Coming

The National Weather Service says windy weather will finish the work week and begin the weekend...

"North to west winds will start increasing over the area Wednesday night, as a weak front passes through the region especially for the Central Coast.

Winds will strengthen further over more of the area Thursday and Friday as a strong low moves into Nevada, potentially leading to damaging level gusts for the mountains (including the Santa Ynez Range and I-5 corridor) and foothills.

Gale force winds are expected for the outer waters and the waters off the Central Coast.

Travel with caution, leave extra space between vehicles and high profile vehicles should avoid traveling during the windiest times.

Avoid work that creates sparks, as red flag fire weather conditions are possible.

Boaters should avoid traveling in these conditions."
