Updated--Ventura City firefighters rescued two critically injured people who were trapped inside of their SUV Saturday afternoon in what turned out to be a fatal crash.
The crash happened at Loma Vista Road and North Victoria Avenue.
Ventura Police Commander Ryan Weeks told KVTA News that one of the vehicles, the SUV, was eastbound on Loma Vista when it's believed it ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck making a right turn from northbound Victoria to eastbound Loma Vista.
Weeks says they believe the SUV ran the red light because the pickup had a dash cam and it showed the pickup was making the right turn from northbound Victoria to eastbound Loma Vista on a green light.
After the collision the SUV rolled several times down eastbound Loma Vista and struck a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house on Madera Avenue and Loma Vista.
The SUV then ended up on its side against a front yard fence (see photos).
Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the male driver and female passenger in the SUV and both were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Weeks says the female passenger later died.
Meanwhile the pickup also ended up on its side but the father who was driving was able to get himself and his child out of the pickup with only minor injuries.
