New Details About The Camarillo Robberies And Deadly Pursuit Saturday

     Updated--The Ventura County Sheriff's Office finally released more details about Saturday's robbery in Camarillo and then the deadly pursuit that followed.

     21-year-old Makare Toliver of Lancaster has pleaded not guilty to two counts of Second Degree Robbery, Evading an Officer Causing Death, Fleeing the Scene of an Accident Causing Death, Grand Theft of a Firearm, and Assault with a Semi Automatic Firearm.

     He also denied 21 Special Allegations in connection with the incident that began with the armed robbery of two people at gunpoint in the parking lot at the Good Nite Inn on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

    Following that crime deputies tried to pursue him and during that effort Toliver is accused of colliding with a bicyclist on Central Avenue between Beardsley and Santa Clara, a collision that left the bicyclist dead.

     The bicyclist, 58-year-old Robert Pierret of Ventura, died at the hospital.

     The incident ended after Toliver was involved in an injury crash with a Tesla in the area of the "S curves" or "Mesa Curves" at Santa Clara and La Vista and was taken into custody at gunpoint by one of the pursuing deputies.

     Toliver remains in the Ventura County Jail and is being held without bail.

     Also arrested with Toliver was a 20-year-old Lancaster man described by authorities has his accomplice in the robberies and a passenger in the getaway vehicle that was involved in the pursuit.

     He was released from jail on bail Sunday and has not been formally charged.
