New Details About DUI Fatal Hit And Run In Oxnard Sunday Morning

     Updated--The Oxnard man arrested in connection with what police allege was a hit and run, DUI traffic collision that killed a pedestrian Sunday morning was in court Tuesday to face charges filed by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

     20-year-old Luiz Armando Ayala pleaded not guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, felony fleeing the scene of an accident involving death, and misdemeanor being an unlicensed driver.

     He also denied special allegations of fleeing the scene of the crime and committing a serious felony.

     Police say that around 3:30 AM Sunday Ayala was driving a 2020 Dodge Challenger when he allegedly struck a pedestrian on southbound Rose Avenue south of Gonzales Road near Saint John's Medical Center.

     The pedestrian, a 58-year-old Santa Barbara man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

     Police also allege he fled the scene but was tracked down by an officer at another location and taken into custody.

     Ayala's $1 million bail was reduced Tuesday to $50,000.

     His next court date in set for August 2nd.
