Auto Shop Fire In Ventura Causes $600,000 Damage

     Updated--Fire investigators were looking for the cause of a major structure fire in Ventura early Thursday morning that caused $600,000 damage to a commercial building.

   It was reported shortly before 2:30 AM in an auto repair shop in the 1300 block of east Thompson Boulevard near San Jon.

   When the first firefighters arrived on scene they found flames shooting through the roof.

   Thirty-five firefighters, police, and ambulance from the cities of Ventura and Oxnard, and Ventura County, responded to the blaze.

   Firefighters conducted an aggresive attack and they had it knocked down in about a half hour.

   The building sustained major damage including a collapsed roof and failed walls.

   They put damage estimates at $500,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the contents.

   No injuries were reported.
