The Ventura County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection with a strange shooting incident in Camarillo last weekend in which a 19-year-old male from Camarillo apparently shot himself during a fight.

When deputies arrived Saturday afternoon to a report of a fight and shots fired at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Glenn Drive they found a gun but no suspects or victims.

Not long after, a 19-year-old Camarillo man showed up at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound that they concluded was self-inflicted.

Detectives say an investigation revealed that the young man had allegedly been involved in an altercation with two other people and had brandished his gun at them.

The say at that point, family members of the would-be victims physically intervened to prevent the gunman from firing and during the struggle the gunman shot himself in the lower torso.

Detectives then served a search warrant in the middle of the night that night at the gunman's home and they say they found evidence that he owned the illegally obtained handgun involved in the incident.

The gunman was discharged from the hospital Tuesday and arrested on several firearms-related violations.

He is scheduled to be in court Thursday.

Deputies in Fillmore have arrested two local residents in connection with a commercial burglary over the weekend.

They say it was discovered Saturday at the business in the 400 block of Ventura Street in Fillmore.

Deputies say the small business had been broken into overnight and several thousand dollars worth of cash and equipment was taken.

Deputies determined rather quickly that the suspects were couple of career criminals from Fillmore and the word was put out to find them.

They say the 44-year-old female suspect was spotted by a patrol deputy Tuesday morning walking in the 300 block of Central Avenue.

She was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail for commercial burglary.

Later that same day her alleged accomplice, a 38-year-old Fillmore man, was spotted hanging out with gang members in the 400 block of 1st Street in Fillmore but when he and the gang members spotted the deputies, they fled into a nearby residence.

That began a standoff that brought in Special Enforcement personnel and a drone and after an hour of negotiations he finally came out and surrendered without further incident.

He was also booked into the Ventura County Jail on Commercial Burglary and other charges.

They are both due in court Thursday.

The authorities say they each have extensive criminal records that go back 20 years.
