Updated---Ventura County prosecutors have filed formal charges against the man they say murdered another man in Oxnard last summer.
34-year-old Omar Romo of Oxnard appeared in court Monday but did not enter a plea.
His arraignment was continued a month.
In addition to the murder charge, Romo is also facing several special allegations regarding use of a firearm, facing a third strike, having a prior serious felony, and being on parole for a serious or violent felony.
Romo was arrested last week on the murder charge while he was already in the Ventura County Jail where he's been on an unrelated matter.
Police allege that Romo fatally shot 44-year-old Oscar Rodriguez in the early morning hours of July 12th.
It happened in the 700 block of Cooper Road in Oxnard.
Rodriguez, who was shot multiple times, died after being rushed to the trauma center at VCMC.
Romo was arrested later that day on a parole violation regarding a second degree robbery conviction.
Jail records indicate he is being held on $2 million bail but the judge agreed with prosecutor's request Monday that he be held without bail and cannot be released.
