Oxnard police say a woman was critically injured by debris after a train and big rig truck collided where the tracks cross Rice Avenue north of Fifth Street.

It happened around 7:15 PM Tuesday evening.

Police say the Metrolink passenger train with 13 passengers on board was westbound when it collided with the tractor trailer rig that was stopped on southbound Rice Avenue.

They say a female street vendor was struck in the head by debris from the collision and was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police say two passengers on the train complained of pain and the big rig driver was not hurt.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The incident shut down that intersection well into the night.

That intersection has a history of serious incidents involving trains and vehicles lincluding a deadly train versus truck crash that derailed the train ten years ago.

The city just broke ground on a $134.5 million grade separation project that will build a bridge to take Rice Avenue over the tracks and Fifth Street.
