The Ventura County Sheriff's Office says their deputies were conducting a special enforcement operation funded by the Department of Homeland Security to focus attention on illegal drug activities along PCH and local harbors when they arrested four people near Ventura Harbor Sunday afternoon on gun and drug charges.
The department says the deputies contacted four people in a dirt lot across Harbor Boulevard from Ventura Harbor.
They say one of them, 48-year-old Kelly Copus of Ventura, was holding a black bag.
Deputies developed probable cause to search the bag and they say they found two loaded revolvers, methaphetamine, digital scales, and two black face masks.
They say they also searched his vehicle parked nearby and found a ballistic vest.
Copus, who has prior felony convictions, was arrested on several felonies related to illegal drugs and also being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
The three other people with him, a 35-year-old Los Angeles man, a 23-year-old Ventura woman, and a 33-year-old Camarillo woman, were arrested on various misdemeanor drug charges.
