Updated--Firefighters from Ventura and Los Angeles counties stopped a 32 acre brush fire that broke out Friday in the Box Canyon area near Simi Valley.
The fire was reported shortly before noon in a stand of oak trees above Shirely Drive near Box Canyon Road.
It burned in steep, rocky terrain that both helped and hindered the fire's spread.
Along with hand crews and engine companies on the ground, water-dropping helicopters and fire retardant-dropping fix-wing air tankers helped battle the fire.
Some of the scattered homes in the area were briefly threatened but no structures were damaged.
Box Canyon Road was closed to allow for fire crews to move through the area without traffic.
