Updated--A Camarillo woman has been sentenced for stealing more than $750,000 from her employer.
40-year-old Neydi Garcia was sentenced Monday to 4-years-and-4-months in prison and she must make full restitution not only to her former employer but also to the California Franchise Tax Board.
She had earlier pleaded guilty to seven counts of Grand Theft, one count of Identity Theft, and one count of Filing False Tax Returns.
She also admitted 39 special allegations.
Prosecutors say that in 2016 Garcia was hired by a Camarillo businessman as an office manager and bookkeeper and ultimately became responsible for both his personal and business finances.
They say in March of 2017, Garcia began embezzling money from him and his business until her crime was discovered in May of 2019.
The authorities say she used the money she stole to live a lavish lifestyle including expensive vacations to Europe, Mexico, Nashville, and Las Vegas.
She also used the money to pay personal cell phone bills, buy jewelry and designer fashion items.
One thing that Garcia did not do was report any of this on her tax returns.
So in addition to being ordered to pay $750,000 in restitution to her victim, she also has to pay the state more than $221,000 in restitution, interest, and penalties.
At end of her sentencing hearing Monday she was taken into custody to begin servicing her prison term.
