Man Convicted Of Attacks On Little Girl, Elderly Women In Camarillo Is Sentenced

Wednesday September 25, 2024

Update--The man convicted of attacking a little girl and two elderly women in separate incidents in Camarillo four years ago has been sentenced.

The judge Wednesday sentenced 28-year-old Joel Gonzales to 16-years-8-months in prison.

The incidents happened over two days in October of 2020 in Camarillo.

Gonzales had sexually assaulted two elderly women in an assisted living facility where he worked and then he tried to kill a then six-year-old girl by strangling her at a Camarillo home.

The jury in his trial had trouble reaching verdicts on several charges but they did convict him of attempted murder in the attack on the girl and found him guilty in connection with one of the sexual assaults of the elderly women.

A plea deal lead to Gonzales pleading guilty to the sexual attack on the other elderly woman and he also dropped his defense of not guilty by reason of insanity.

In addition to the prison sentence, Gonzales must also register as a sex offender.
