The Ventura County District Attorney's Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a former Simi Valley woman they allege has ripped off people looking for a home to rent.
Prosecutors say that 46-year-old Jenifer Singh has been charged with two counts of grand theft.
They say that a year ago she posted fliers at a Thousand Oaks laundromat advertising a home for rent in Simi Valley.
A local family called the number on the flier and spoke with Singh who claimed she was authorized to lease the home and the family paid her $2500 in cash to secure the tenancy.
Then the family found out that Singh did not own the home nor was she authorized to rent it.
Prosecutors say Singh never refunded the money paid by the family.
Then in March of 2024 it is alleged that Singh placed an ad on social media marketing the same home for rent.
A second Simi Valley family called the number on the ad and Singh reportedly made the same pitch and received $3000 this time plus another $1,000 she said she needed for a medical procedure.
Again, the second victim family was left holding the bag and never got their money back.
The DA's office believes Singh may have other alleged victims of the same scam and they are looking for them and also for Singh who remains at large.
If you have information on other victims or know where Singh is the DA's office is asking that you call their Real Estate Fraud Unit at (805) 662-1750.
