Updated--A Ventura County judge Thursday sentenced a Thousand Oaks man for torturing and beating his then 4-year-old daughter, leaving her in a vegetative state.
28-year-old Tekquan Alexander was sentenced to life in prison with parole.
A month ago a jury found Alexander guilty of Assault On A Child Causing Coma or Paralysis, Child Endangerment, and Corporal Injury To A Child.
The jury spent about two days in deliberations before returning their verdicts.
Alexander was also convicted on several special allegations.
On Thanksgiving week 2021 at the family home in the 4100 block of Lemonberry Place in Thousand Oaks Alexander used a belt and also an amplifier cable to repeatedly beat his then 4-year-old daughter Alani over several days, in one instance because he was mad she wet her bed.
On November 29th of that year, first responders were finally called.
They reported finding the girl suffering from what was described as life threatening injuries.
Paramedics administered CPR and she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with catastrophic injuries.
She was later airlifted to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.
Alexander testified in his own defense at his trial.
