Murder Charge Filed In Oxnard Man's Fentanyl Overdose Death

     A first for Ventura County.

     An Oxnard man was arrested Wednesday and charged with second degree murder in connection with the Fentanyl overdose death of another Oxnard man.

     Police arrested 55-year-old Rodney Ray Yanez in the 5500 block of Everglade Street in Ventura.

     They allege that Yanez knowingly sold Dylan Rusch the Fentanyl that killed Rusch who was found dead in the restroom of a gas station in the 1500 block of West Gonzales Road in September of 2023.

     The Ventura County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was that Fentanyl.

     In addition to the second degree murder charge, the DA has also charged Yanez with three pages of additional drug related and other charges.

     Yanez is being held on $1 million bail and is due in court Thursday for arraignment.
